On January 1, 2008, all bars and restaurants in Chicago became officially smoke free. In an effort to utilize hundreds of useless ashtrays and raise money for a local charity, chef/owner Susan Goss of West Town Tavern and The Architrouve gallery collected ashtrays from West Town bars and restaurants to be used in an innovative art exhibition, "Ashtrays to Art." Chicago artists were provided with the opportunity to create signature works of art using these donated ashtrays. The results of the artists' efforts were presented in a one-of-a-kind exhibition of 'ashtray art' which was on display at The Architrouve and West Town Tavern beginning Tuesday, February 19, and ran through Tuesday, February 26. On that last Tuesday, there was an "Ashtrays to Art Auction" at The Architrouve, and the following podcast was recorded at that event. All proceeds from this show were given to Erie Neighborhood House, a community service agency in the West Town area.
